Home Security and Outdoor Cameras

Protect your loved ones and discourage potential burglars by keeping an eye on your home. These outdoor security cameras can do exactly that. You can upgrade your home's video surveillance system with the latest high-end equipment or search for affordable and reliable home security solutions.

There are many home outdoor cameras that will suit your needs. These include the dome camera, high-tech options, and high-definition 1080p HD video.

There are many options for home outdoor security cameras, and their quality keeps getting better. Standard features include night vision and motion sensors, and some models have two-way audio and free cloud storage.

Some models also come with IR LEDs floodlights, spotlights, Wi-Fi, and facial recognition. You can choose from front door cameras or a smart security cam that connects to your smart home and can be monitored with your smartphone. Only a few outdoor cameras will take you to a complete security system that maximizes safety.

However, technology is only half the battle won. Any security camera is not enough. The best exterior security cameras must be able to withstand rain, wind, snow, and other weather conditions and still capture watchable footage.

What outdoor security camera type is the best?

There are many outdoor security cameras that can be used. It all depends on your specific needs. A camera that has a power cord is the best option if you are looking for low upkeep.

However, completely wireless battery operated cameras could be a good choice if you need to monitor spaces far from power outlets. Cameras with a minimum 1080p resolution, wide field of vision, night vision, and deterrence functions like a flashlight or alarm, will work well.

Do wireless cameras work without Internet?

image.png

While wireless smart cams rely on the internet to function, it isn't always a prerequisite. Some devices, such as the Nest wireless video doorbell and Wyze smart cameras have the ability to save footage locally in case there is an outage. Other systems, such as Lorex smart home security cam use their own wireless network. Wireless cameras can continue recording as long their base station is powered.

Which security camera can be the best for cold weather?

You need to make sure your camera is protected from extreme cold, rain, or other adverse weather conditions. IP ratings of 65 and 66 indicate that the camera is solid. Water or dust cannot be absorbed into it unless it's completely submerged.

It is a good idea to also compare your local winter temperatures with your camera's lowest allowed temperature. Higher temperatures are needed for battery-operated cameras. Arlo, for example, can be operated at 14 degrees F. The Wyze Cam v3 however, can operate at -4 F.

Affordable security with no compromise?

Who doesn't have a tight budget? Having the best tech for a smart home is very expensive and when it comes to good home security we tend to have to spend a little. Our recommendation for an affordable security camera is the Wyze Cam 3.

The setup of the Wyze Cam v3 takes approximately 5 minutes. On the Wyze App, go to the plus sign in the upper left corner of your home screen to select "Add Device" to get started.

Wyze will then show you a selection of products. Select Wyze Cam V3 and follow these steps to add it. Before you drill holes, ensure that you test the strength of your home Wi-Fi network at the planned location before installing a tripod mount.

You can now view your camera's live feed and adjust your settings in the app. This includes whether you want to be alerted for motion and sound events.

This outdoor security cam also allows you to create a motion detection area, adjust your night vision settings according to the lighting conditions, and much more. The camera can also be used with Alexa or Google Assistant.

The Wyze Cam allows you to use voice commands to send the security camera feed to a smart screen. It enhances its effectiveness with it's weatherproof housing and sharp night vision. A wider field of view is available, as well as a functional siren.

The Wyze Cam 3 is easy to recommend due to its low price, high-value legacy features, and free 14-day storage.

Can a doorbell replace a security camera?

Wiring is a struggle and it can be difficult for almost all homeowners to deal with low-voltage doorbell wiring and transformers. The primary concern everybody can face is bad wiring can lead to video freezing or night vision problems.

The Arlo Video Doorbell is a good security camera. It also has many features and low storage fees. You can subscribe to cloud storage for the advanced package, along with person, animal, and vehicle detection alerts.

The smart buzzer can be installed quickly and easily and includes motion detection zones, two-way audio, and an integrated siren. Arlo makes it quite simple to set up the Video Doorbell. Download the Arlo App and create an account if you don’t have one.

You can follow the steps on the app to turn off the power at your circuit breaker, install the Power Kit (an adapter to your doorbell chime that regulates the power going to your Arlo Video Doorbell), and finally install the Arlo Video Doorbell.

The doorbell can be connected directly to your Wi-Fi network, unlike other Arlo cameras. You can use it with either a digital or mechanical doorbell chime and works like a home security outdoor camera,

It is also easy to use the Arlo Video Doorbell through the app. The Arlo Video Doorbell can be armed and disarmed just like traditional home security outdoor systems. Motion detection and video recording are active when the doorbell is armed. You won't get alerts if it's disarmed.

You can set up an automated schedule for when your doorbell should be armed or disarmed. Or you can set it to work within a geofencing area, which allows you to control the mode of the doorbell based on your location. It disarms the system when you are at home and arms it when you are away.

Are wireless security cameras worth it?

Wireless cameras have problems with signal loss and interference. This means you'll need to keep changing the batteries in order to ensure your camera is functioning properly. A dead security camera isn't any good. To ensure your camera's continued operation, you must constantly change the batteries.

The Pro series camera from Arlo is an amazing device. The Arlo Pro 4 outdoor security camera boasts 2K HDR resolution and a 160-degree view. It also features two-way talk, full-color night vision, two-way voice communication, and a spotlight.

This wireless outdoor camera can be used to store your video files locally. The Arlo Pro 4 home security camera is an excellent choice for most people who need a quick installation and don't mind occasionally changing batteries.

The home security outdoor camera is solidly attached to its magnetic base and has a nice weight to it. The camera boasts a 2k resolution, 160-degree field-of-view, full-color night vision (though the camera can shift to black and white in low-light settings), two-way talk, and a built-in siren.

The Arlo Pro 4 does not have an SD card slot. This means that any local storage will need to be stored on a separate device, such as the Arlo SmartHub.

In order to use it with an Apple HomeKit system (which Arlo technically can work with), you will need a separate Arlo device called SmartHub. The same one is required for local storage. Problem is, the SmartHub isn’t available at retailers

Weatherproof outdoor security

The issues faced by outdoor security cameras include the weather, the location of the router and Wi-Fi channels, and interference from another wireless device. We all go through these at some point.

It is best to block off areas that you don’t want to be monitored. Privacy masks cover areas that protect your privacy, such as neighbors' property, license plates, and public footpaths.

Record and save your motion clips to a Micro SD card which is available separately even in case of network disruption. You can also back up important motion clips in the cloud for a dual guarantee.

The Reolink Argus 3 Pro with time-lapse makes it easier and quicker to capture the dynamic of long-term events such as sunrises and flowers blooming.

Use the app to warn unwelcome guests on your porch. Once a burglar is identified, the camera's spotlights are activated to alert the suspect. Stop accidents from happening before they do!

This camera has a lot to offer: 1080p live streaming, motion detection, sound detection, activity zones, and IFTTT Integration. You can also integrate with other Nest products using the associated Android and iPhone apps.

A Nest Aware subscription, which includes Person Alerts, allows you to do so much more as well. This comes with a feature that sends you a notification when it detects a person.

Nest's Outdoor Cam ranks high among DIY security products. Its HD live streaming is excellent, Nest Aware's new 3-hour cloud storage offers significant value for people who don’t want to pay for Nest Aware, and the magnetic base makes installation simple.

The magnetic design can also make it easy to potentially get stolen. And depending on where you place it, it could also possibly be an eye-sore. We'd like more options for customizing alerts, rather than having to rely solely on Nest's algorithms.
